About feeding appliances
The hardest part of making yogurt at home is keeping the temperature steady. That is also why yogurt left to set under a blanket sometimes doesn't turn out. A yogurt maker does this job for you: it holds the temperature steady and keeps track of the time.
The Weewell digital yogurt maker comes with glass jars. Because you fill each jar separately, each one is a single portion that is easy to put in the fridge and serve. You set the temperature and time on the digital display, and the device stops by itself when the time is up.
Glass jars don't hold on to smells and are easy to clean. The two most important factors for consistency are the milk and the time; a longer fermentation gives a thicker consistency.
Choosing a yogurt maker
- Number of jars and portions
- Separate glass jars let you make single portions of yogurt. In a busy household, more jars in one batch will serve you better.
- Temperature and time setting
- An adjustable time lets you control the consistency. A digital display shows the remaining time, making it easier to keep track.
- Cleaning
- Glass jars don't hold on to smells. Check the manual to see whether the jars are dishwasher-safe.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I get the consistency right?
- Three things set the consistency: fresh starter culture, milk at the temperature given in the manual when you add the culture, and letting the full time run. Get these three right and leave the device without shaking it or opening the lid while it runs, and you get the same result every time.
- Can I wash the glass jars in the dishwasher?
- The glass jars and their lids are dishwasher-safe. The body and electrical parts of the device must not be put in water; wipe them with a damp cloth.
- How should I place the jars?
- Place the jars on the base without their lids, so they don't touch each other, and close the device's cover. This spreads the heat evenly to every jar. Put the lids on once fermentation is finished, as the jars go into the fridge.
